17 At the University Orientation You won’t want to miss Orientation week, including our special international orientation session. Find out all you need to know about studying at the University of Auckland, living in Auckland, and enjoying your New Zealand experience. Through a comprehensive series of information sessions you’ll learn about all of the support services available to help you reach your academic potential. There is also a wide variety of social activities and excursions organised. This programme is for all students, both undergraduate and postgraduate. International orientation At the international orientation you will receive a welcome pack, meet international student support staff, find out about events being held throughout the University, and join us for morning tea. We will provide information about important University services, and tips for enjoying your time in New Zealand. This session is strongly recommended for all new international students. Faculty orientation Each faculty also hosts a faculty orientation day filled with information to help you get prepared for the start of your academic studies. You’ll meet other students in your faculty, get a campus tour from a student mentor, pick up useful study skills, and find out important faculty- specific information. UniGuides The UniGuide programme is a free service designed to help make your first semester easier by connecting you with a senior student who can help you settle in. You will meet your UniGuide at your faculty orientation day. Student events What’s On is the University’s hub for events and activities on campus, not just at Orientation, but for the whole year. Sign up for the fortnightly e-newsletter and we’ll keep you up to date with what’s happening on campus. Events include everything from concerts to stand-up comedy, exploring the outdoors to cooking classes, poetry slam and quiz nights, and everything in between. Online Orientation Online Orientation is your one stop online resource, designed to equip you with helpful information about University life! You'll get access to modules from the day you receive an offer, until you enrol with your faculty of study. You can access your Online Orientation modules wherever and whenever during your first semester. They include videos and quizzes to help you become more familiar with the University, and interactive campus maps and checklists so you can be prepared before you start. Student services International student advisers We recognise the pressures that students face when studying overseas. Our friendly international student advisers can help with a range of issues, including study advice, immigration, health, financial advice, accommodation, and personal support. This service is free of charge and confidential. There is also a 24/7 emergency number available if you urgently need to contact our staff, at any time of day or night. AskAuckland Central AskAuckland Central is the University’s main information hub. It is located on the ground level of Alfred Nathan House (next to the General Library) with access at the rear of the building. AskAuckland Central is your first point of contact for a wide range of issues, including general enquiries, fees payments, visa renewals , and Campus Card collection. In order to collect your Campus Card , y ou must have already completed your course enrolment on Student Services Online and submitted a ph oto . As a n international student, you must also present a copy of the photo page of your passport and a valid student visa to study at the University of Auckland. Once you receive your Campus Card, AskAuckland Central staff will also be able to issue you with your Auckland Transport tertiary ID sticker so you can load a student conce ssion onto your HOP card.
