9 Airport arrival Free airport pickup We know how difficult it can be when you arrive in a new country, so we offer every new international student a free airport pickup. A driver holding a ‘UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND’ sign will be there to meet and greet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation. This free pickup service includes your spouse and/or children if you are travelling with them, but you will be charged $60 per person for any other accompanying passengers. Once you have booked your flight and accommodation, please apply online using the airport pickup link provided in the welcome information sheet (included in your offer of admission email). Make sure to complete this form at least 7 days in advance of your arrival. If you are a new international doctoral (PhD) student and would like to request an airport pickup, please contact the International Office at int-questions@auckland.ac.nz . Passenger Arrival Card You will be given a passenger arrival card to complete during your flight. This will ask for your personal details including your passport number and nationality, and will also ask for your residential address while you’re studying in New Zealand (it’s ok to use a short- term address). If you need help understanding anything, just ask the airline staff on your plane. Passport Control After leaving the plane, take your passport and student visa to passport control. The passport control officer will welcome you to New Zealand and check all of your documents. Baggage Claim There will be signs to direct you to the baggage claim area, and then large digital screens to show you which carousel you can collect your bags from. There are separate collection desks for fragile or oversized items, and you can use the free trolleys to move your bags. Your luggage may be checked by biosecurity dogs in the area. Customs Once you have your bags, you need to go through customs. Give the customs officer your passenger arrival card, and make sure to tell them about any items in your luggage that you are unsure of. You will then place all of your bags through an x-ray machine for screening. A customs officer may perform a further search of your baggage if necessary. Currency exchange There is a Travelex Currency Exchange office at the Auckland International Airport where you can exchange your money. There are also ATM’s at the airport and you can get New Zealand dollars from these at any time. You can also exchange major currencies at other bank branches. However, before you leave your home country, please check with your bank that your country’s home currency is available for exchange in New Zealand. 1 2 3 4 NEW ZEALAND PASSENGER ARRIVAL CARD • ThisArrivalCard isa legaldocument– falsedeclarations can lead topenalties including confiscationofgoods, fines, prosecution, imprisonment, and removal fromNewZealand. • AseparateArrivalCardmustbecompletedforeachpassenger, includingchildren. • PleaseanswerinEnglishandfillinBOTHsides. • Printincapitalletterslikethis:NEWZEALANDormarkanswerslikethis: FEB2011 Informationcollected on this formand during the arrival process is sought to administer Customs, Immigration, Biosecurity,Border Security,Health,Wildlife,Police,Fine Enforcement,Justice,Benefits,Social Service,Electoral, InlandRevenue, andCurrencylaws.Theinformationisauthorisedbylegislationandwillbedisclosedtoagencies administeringandentitledtoreceiveitunderNewZealandlaw.Thisincludesforpurposesofdatamatchingbetween thoseagencies.Oncecollected,informationmaybeusedforstatisticalpurposesbyStatisticsNewZealand.
